Real-Time Sensing for Smarter Bioprocessing

At ArgusEye, we have developed a cutting-edge biosensor platform based on more than 15 years of academic research. Our real-time bioprocess monitoring platform, powered by Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance (LSPR)—an optical sensing technique that enables real-time, label-free detection of biomolecules directly in complex bioprocess samples.

Unlike traditional analytical tools, our sensors require no sample preparation and operate under ambient conditions, in complex samples and bioprocess environments. This is made possible by our flexible sensor systems and uniquely robust sensor chips, featuring a proprietary surface chemistry optimized for reliable performance in even the most demanding environments.

What is Localised Surface Plasmon Resonance?

LSPR is a phenomenon that occurs when light interacts with metal nanoparticles, typically gold or silver, causing their electrons to oscillate in resonance with the light. These oscillations are highly sensitive to changes in the local environment, such as the presence of biomolecules near the nanoparticle surface. This sensitivity allows our system to detect tiny changes in refractive index as biomolecules bind to the surface. No labels or fluorescent tags are needed, and binding events are detected directly, in real-time, and with high precision.

Why LSPR Matters in Bioprocessing

Our biosensors for biopharma enable real-time monitoring of critical quality attributes (CQAs) and critical process parameters (CPPs) directly in upstream or downstream bioprocess streams. Key benefits include:

Real-time, label-free detection of biomolecules

No sample prep required — works in unfiltered, complex media

Rugged surface chemistry — stable performance in challenging conditions

Customizable detection — target-specific ligands enable felxible and specific analyte recognition

Compact and scalable — suitable for both development labs and full-scale manufacturing

How Our LSPR Biosensors Work

The core of our technology is a nanopatterned sensor chip, where the resonance frequency of the metal nanostructures shifts upon binding of target molecules. These shifts are detected optically—like seeing a “color change” at the nanoscale—and translated into quantitative data in real time.

By functionalizing the sensor surface with capture molecules tailored to your specific analytes, we can target product titer, contaminants, or quality markers. Our plug-and-play platform supports continuous monitoring and seamless integration into bioprocess workflows.
