ArgusEye was founded to address one of the biopharmaceutical industry’s longstanding challenges: the lack of real-time process insight. The company’s biosensing technology is based on Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance (LSPR), an advanced optical sensing technique developed through more than 15 years of pioneering research by Dr. Erik Martinsson and his research team.
In the video below, CTO and Co-Founder Dr. Erik Martinsson reflects on the industry challenge that laid the foundation for the company.
A lack of real-time process insight has long been a limitation in bioprocessing. Critical process decisions are still frequently based on manual sampling and off-line analysis, this gap led to the vision of developing biosensor technology capable of delivering reliable, real-time data to support more efficient, automated, and predictable bioprocessing.
Dr. Martinsson explains that achieving that vision requires solving a highly complex technical challenge. Measuring specific molecules in demanding biological environments calls for biosensors that combine sensitivity, selectivity, robustness, and long-term reliability. Equally important is ensuring that the technology addresses real industry needs through close collaboration with customers, academic researchers, and development partners.
According to Dr. Martinsson, the biopharmaceutical industry is moving towards increased automation and data-driven manufacturing, where real-time process insight will become increasingly important. He believes that integrated sensing technologies, combined with advanced data analysis and AI, will enable more efficient, predictable, and flexible bioprocesses in the years ahead.
